The Position
This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy for the position of Road Maintenance Worker, which may be filled at the I or II level, depending on the qualifications, at the Roads Division of the Napa County's Public Works Department. T he eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.
About the Position & Department:
- Road Maintenance Worker I: $32.98 (Step 1) - $39.03 (Step 5)
- Road Maintenance Worker II: $35.12 (Step 1) - $41.71 (Step 5)

- Hours of work: Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, on-call, and after normal business hours.
- The Road Maintenance Worker I (RMW I) performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work related to the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, rights of way and other County infrastructure including the operation of trucks and heavy-power-driven road maintenance and construction equipment.
- The Road Maintenance Worker II (RMW II) is the journey level class in the Road Maintenance Worker job series. Incumbents work under general supervision, are required to skillfully operate light and moderately heavy equipment may operate heavy equipment in a training capacity and possess a Commercial California Class B Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
- Experience:
- RMW I: One year of experience performing road maintenance or construction work.
- RMW II: One year of experience as a Road Maintenance Worker I in Napa County or two years of experience operating light and moderately heavy road construction equipment such as trucks, loaders, backhoes and rollers.
- Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
- License or Certificate*:
- RMW I: Possession of a valid Class C license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles.
- RMW II: Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction.
- *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, on-call, and after normal business hours.
