Bilingual skills are welcome where applicable.Essential FunctionsReceives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy, including firearms training as required for qualification.Receives on-the-job training under the immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee.Assigned each work week to assist in running lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, writs, observing individuals in custody, perimeter patrol, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, and related duties.Travels by using a state-issued vehicle to complete assignments.Receives one week of orientation at the facility.Undergoes formal training in housing unit work, report writing, out-count work, yard work, running lines, handling individuals in custody, chain-of-command, security buildings, and disciplinary procedures, with ongoing training as deemed necessary.Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the duties enumerated above.Minimum QualificationsRequires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.Requires elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.Conditions of EmploymentRequires completion of a pre-service security training course during the trainee period.Requires successful completion of a firearms training course and the ability to use firearms during the trainee period.Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel statewide.Must be eligible under federal and state law to acquire and possess a firearm and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card.Must utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes to support digital enhancements for efficiency and transformation within the department.Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check and a drug screening.Applicants must abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set by the employer.Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.; shift and days off will vary.Headquarter Location: 600 S Linwood Rd, Galesburg, Illinois, 61401Work County: KnoxAgency Contact: Mitzi MintonEmail: Mitzi.Minton@illinois.govPosting Group: Public SafetyThis position is a union position; provisions of the relevant collective bargaining agreement apply to filling this position.All applicants must apply electronically through the Illinois Department of Corrections Website: Become a Correctional Officer.
