Newly hired Police Officer Trainees will participate in a comprehensive entry-level field training program under the guidance of experienced Field Training Officers, preparing them for both the police academy and a successful career in law enforcement.
Trainees will attend a full-time, 26-week Bay Area Police Academy, where they will receive extensive instruction in a variety of law enforcement topics, including criminal law, report writing, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, and physical fitness. The academy is designed to challenge and develop each recruit's mental resilience, physical endurance, and professional skills.

Qualifications
Education, Experience and Age: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- The candidate must be at least 20-1/2 years of age at date of application.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record must be maintained throughout employment.
- As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must successfully complete the certified POST Basic Academy course of instruction.
Application Process
The examination process will consist of: Application Screening - Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position.Examination Process - A written examination OR Pellet B passing score will be required.
- All candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be required to take a written exam, unless a passing Pellet B score of at least 47 is attached to the application.
- The written exam will be conducted on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at the Brentwood Community Center. To participate, you must first submit an application and be invited to the written examination. Please wait for your official invitation and confirmation before attending. Applicants who arrive without an invitation and confirmation will not be admitted to the examination.
