Position Summary:
Manages daily department operations, supervises team members, and ensures clinical compliance. Oversees the complete credentialing workflow from initial application to final approval to verify all staff qualifications while actively managing clinical and behavioral quality assurance. Key responsibilities include auditing department funds, coordinating complex schedules, and analyzing productivity reports to drive continuous operational improvement.
Job Requirement
Education/Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare or Business Administration or a closely related field, and five (5) years of experience in medical staff management or related field in a major hospital setting.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid certification from the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements
Knowledge of:
Medical staff services function and structure; credentialing and privileging; Det Norske Veritas (DNV) standards; laws and regulations related to the credentialing process; bylaw, rules and regulations (CMS, NRS); department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; hospital personnel policies and procedures; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Effectively managing assigned staff; facilitating resolution of conflicts among staff; applying budget principles and practices; identifying and implementing performance standards; problem solving; developing interpersonal relations with department heads and functional areas of the hospital; analyzing and problem solving; applying team building concepts; utilizing personal computers for data management and information dissemination; Microsoft Office application suite; communicating effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated or standing for long periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. 27 days of paid time off per year! Full- and part-time employees begin accruing CAL time immediately based on the number of hours worked. CAL time is used for vacation, holidays, sick and personal time off.
