The Assistant General Manager – Customer & Energy Resources is a key executive leadership position responsible for advancing Alameda Municipal Power’s customer strategy, energy resource planning, and long-term business objectives. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this executive will lead a multidisciplinary organization responsible for customer programs and services, energy resource planning and procurement, rates and pricing, business development, communications, community engagement, and portfolio risk management. The successful candidate will help implement AMP’s Strategic Plan while fostering collaboration, innovation, organizational excellence, and exceptional customer service.
As a member of AMP’s Executive Leadership Team, the Assistant General Manager – Customer & Energy Resources provides strategic leadership across a diverse portfolio that directly influences the utility’s long-term success and relationship with the community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development and execution of customer, energy resource, and business strategies aligned with AMP’s Strategic Plan.
- Direct customer programs and services, key account management, business development, communications, community engagement, and public benefits initiatives.
- Oversee integrated resource planning, wholesale power procurement, energy portfolio management, and risk management strategies.
- Provide executive leadership for rate design, pricing strategy, electrification initiatives, demand-side management, and energy efficiency programs.
- Build strong partnerships with customers, City leadership, elected officials, regional agencies, and community organizations.
- Lead and develop a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with the General Manager and Executive Leadership Team to identify strategic opportunities and address complex organizational challenges.
- Present recommendations and policy matters to the Public Utilities Board, City Council, and executive stakeholders.
- Ensure organizational performance through data-driven decision making, operational excellence, and exceptional customer experience.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative executive leader who combines strategic vision with operational excellence and possesses a strong understanding of the evolving electric utility industry.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Economics, Energy Management, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Significant progressively responsible executive or senior management experience within electric utilities, public power, energy, or a closely related industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading customer-focused organizations, energy resource planning, utility operations, business development, or related functions.
- Experience working effectively with governing boards, executive leadership, elected officials, and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change, develop high-performing teams, and manage complex strategic initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a municipal utility, public power agency, Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), investor-owned utility, or energy organization.
- Knowledge of California energy policy, resource planning, wholesale power markets, utility rates, electrification, and customer programs.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Executive leadership experience in a complex, highly regulated organization.
