The Administrative Services Department is seeking is one full-time Senior Fiscal Clerk in the Revenue Division. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and communication skills, a commitment to customer service, attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and work independently. This position performs will perform duties related to the administration and business licensing processing, regulatory permits, customer service and other revenue related functions. This position will be customer-facing and will assist in resolving customer inquiries and discrepancies, and support the accurate and efficient administration of departmental fiscal operations.

Selection Components:
  • Application Evaluation: This position will remain open until August 28, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., or until 150 applications are received- whichever occurs firs t . C andidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their online application will be in vited to online skills testing including Excel. In order for the application package to be considered complete, candidates are required to attach their resume to their online application.
  • Online Skills Exam: T entatively scheduled for the week of September 7, 2026 . Top-scoring applicants who pass the examination will be invited to a virtual interview.

  • Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for September 24, 2026 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future Senior Fiscal Clerk vacancies as they occur throughout the City.

This position will work a 5/40 schedule.

CalPERS: The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost, whichever is higher) of pay towards the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of financial and related statistical records.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by courses in accounting or business practices.

License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.

The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south. It has an estimated permanent population of 86,738 but during the summer months, the population grows to more than 100,000 with 20,000 to 100,000 tourists daily.

The City of Newport Beach was incorporated September 1, 1906 and the current City Charter was adopted in 1954. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Its seven City Council Members are elected by district, but are voted on by the population as a whole. They serve four-year terms. The Council consists of the Mayor and six other members and is responsible for policy-making, passing local ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees and hiring the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
