    Essential Job Functions

    A Civil Engineering Student is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions: prepares routine engineering sketches, drawings, diagrams, tracings, and "As-Built" record plans based on inspector notes using manual drafting and computer-based drafting tools such as Computer Aided Design Drafting (CADD); performs basic engineering and mathematical calculations; assists in compiling data for engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, etc., and in the maintenance of such data in various databases; assists in the exploration of soils and foundations and in the testing of construction materials; assists in map maintenance; assists in taking field notes and measurements; and assists in the analysis and geographic presentation of data using appropriate computer applications such as Geographic Information System (GIS).

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
    Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university with at least JUNIOR STANDING* in an engineering program approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

    LICENSE

    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS
    Physical Class II - Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
    *To be accepted for JUNIOR STANDING, applicants must have accumulated at least 60 semester or 90 quarter academic credits/units.

    Applicants MUST provide transcripts showing proof of academic standing, degree major, and current enrollment with the application during the examination process. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable during the examination process; however, official transcripts will be verified at the time of appointment. If hired, applicants must continue to be enrolled and attend school to maintain eligibility for and status in the position.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT
    The examination will consist of an interview covering education, experience, personal fitness, and general ability to perform the duties of the position weighted 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    Applicants who have taken identical test parts for other exams within the last six (6) months will have their scores for the identical test parts automatically transferred to this examination upon acceptance of your application.

    This examination contains test parts that may be used in the future for new examination. Upon acceptance of your application, your scores may be transferred to the new examination and you may not be allowed to retake any identical test parts for at least six (6) months.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in this examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of eligibility.

    NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX (6) MONTHS.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION

    The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.     FINGERPRINTING AND SECURITY CLEARANCE

    Before a final appointment is made to this position, candidates are subject to security clearance which includes fingerprinting.
