    Position Information

    The Brentwood Police Department is seeking highly motivated individuals who are eager to work in a city and department that prides itself on professionalism and community support. The Brentwood Police Department is a progressive agency that provides its police officers with the best equipment, training, and tools necessary to do the job.

    Applicants who are hired will be led by Field Training Officers through an entry level field training program to prepare them for a law enforcement career and the academy. Applicants will be sent to a local Bay Area Police Academy where they will participate in a full-time 26-week program. The academy will involve written exams, learning domains, firearms, driving, and defensive tactics training, and a rigorous physical fitness program designed to push the student's mental and physical fitness levels.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education/Training:
    • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

    Experience:
    • None required.

    Age:
    • The candidate shall be at least 20-1/2 years of age at date of application.

    License or Certificate:
    • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
    • As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must successfully complete the certified POST Basic Academy course of instruction.


    Application Process

    The examination process will consist of: Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position.Written examination OR Pellet B passing score.
    • All candidates will be required to take a written exam, unless a passing Pellet B score of at least 47 is attached to the application. Pellet B scores can also be emailed to humanresources@brentwoodca.gov .
    • The written exam will be conducted every other Friday beginning August 23, 2024 at 9am at the Brentwood Community Center. You must apply and be invited to participate in the written examination process.
    Eligible List - All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.Department Panel Interviews - Candidates on the eligible list may be selected to interview with the department leadership team. Captains Interviews - The best qualified candidates will be invited for a Captains interview.Polygraph Exam - Selected candidates will be invited to take a polygraph exam.Background Investigation - Selected candidates will be invited to complete comprehensive background investigation process.Police Chief - Final candidates will be invited to interview with the Police Chief.Medical and Psychological Evaluations - One or more candidates may be provided a conditional offer of employment. All employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a medical and psychological evaluation.Police Academy - Candidates that complete the hiring process will be enrolled in a Police Academy.
