    Introduction

    The Transportation (ITS) Engineer performs highly technical and professional engineering work in the transportation area: signing, striping, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, streetlights and telecommunication network.

    NOTE:
    If there are no applicants that meet all the minimum requirements for the Transportation (ITS) Engineer position, this may be underfilled as an Transportation (ITS) Analyst, depending on applicant qualifications. If the position is underfilled, the salary offered would be commensurate with the lower level classification. The minimum requirements for the underfill position are listed below in the Minimum Qualifications section.

    Anticipated salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity.

    The hiring ranges for the specific levels are as follows:
    • Transportation (ITS) Engineer: $91,208.00 - $109,491.20 (mid-point)
    • Transportation (ITS) Analyst: $82,742.40 - $99,340.80 (mid-point)


    Minimum Qualifications

    Transportation (ITS) Engineer:
    Full Salary Range: $91,208.00 - $123,198.40 Annually
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, System Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution is require
    • Three years of relevant experience in ITS, Traffic Signals, Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    • A qualifying Master's Degree Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, System Engineering or a closely related field can substitute for up to two years of experience.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
    • Possession of an Arizona Professional Engineer's license within 36 months of hire.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Transportation (ITS) Analyst - Underfill

    Full Salary Range:
    $82,742.40 - $111,779.20 Annually
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
    • Three years of experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) or a related field.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    • A qualifying master's degree can substitute for up to two years of experience.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted drivers' license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out of state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Designs and prepares plans and specifications and cost estimates for Transportation and ITS projects.
    • Develops and implements traffic signal timing and coordination plans.
    • Performs studies pertinent to traffic signal operations, lighting analysis and other transportation related issues.
    • Reviews and comments on signing and striping, traffic signal, streetlighting and fiber design and construction plans.
    • Researches and implements Transportation and ITS emerging technologies.
    • Prepares technical diagrams, engineering drawings, technical specifications related to transportation, traffic signals, ITS devices and communication network.
    • Works closely with professional engineers and technical engineering staff from other City divisions as well as the City Council and Transportation Commission.
    • Conducts presentations to the public, Transportation Commission and City Council meetings on matters related to Transportation and ITS.

    • Most work is performed in a City office environment.
    • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

    • Operate a city vehicle to travel to/from various locations.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
