    Community Development Director

    City of Indio, California

     

    The City of Indio (population approximately 100,000) is a full-service city with about 300 full-time positions and a 2023-2024 total fiscal year budget of $361 million.  The City purposely, strategically and with vision, drives itself to maintain and enhance its well-deserved reputation and recognition as a premier business and residential community.  Indio is the 3rd fastest growing city in southern California, 8th fastest growing city in the entire State of California, the 30th fast growing city in the nation, and known as the “City of Festivals” for its world-famous arts, food, and music festivals such as the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival. The opportunities for housing, business, retail development, hospitality, industry, logistics, and healthcare in Indio are tremendous. 

     

    The Community Development Director will supervise, manage and coach a very talented and enthusiastic team in Planning and in Building & Safety.  The Director serving in this wonderful City and in this very important role will be an inspirational, motivational and organized leader, as well as a collaborative and team oriented communicator.  Furthermore, the position of Community Development Director also requires an individual who values and embraces engagement with Department, community, and regional stakeholders to achieve organization goals. 

     

    The successful applicant must have a strong technical background and hands-on experience in municipal Planning at a minimum level of Senior Planner, Manager, or Deputy Director as well as have the ability and resources to learn California land use policy and regulations.  The successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering or a related field plus 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in urban planning, including 3 years administrative or supervisory capacity.

     

    The annual salary range of the position is negotiable up to $235,776 based on experience, as well provides excellent executive level benefits.
