    Human Resources Director

    City of Thousand Oaks, California

As a role model among municipalities, and as a center of culture, innovation, business, recreation and affordable living, the City of Thousand Oaks is comparable with some of the most renown cities in the United States.  Incorporated in 1964 and within a 55.4 square mile area, the City of Thousand Oaks (population approximately125,000) is the second largest city in Ventura County.  The City of Thousand Oaks is home to the Civic Arts Plaza that features world-class entertainment, musicals, concerts, children’s performances, ballets and more; numerous major corporate headquarters; a variety of retail shopping and dining opportunities; and education and research including California Lutheran University and Amgen biotechnology.

The City of Thousand Oaks seeks candidates for the position of Human Resources Director to join an organization that thrives by embracing the aspirational values of “service, flexibility, teamwork, performance, innovation, wellness, belonging and growth mindset” for fostering a community that drives positive change and enhances the quality of life for all residents.  If you are an individual who is a dynamic, collaborative, and forward- thinking leader motivated to “attracting, developing and retaining the most highly qualified, proficient and service-oriented workforce possible,” please consider applying.  The new Director will have the exciting, fun and challenging charge to: develop and implement strategies to further enhance the City’s organizational culture; focus on the long-term health of the organization for talent attraction, retention and succession planning; implement a Classification and Compensation Plan; work with the Finance Department toward the development, deployment, and use of new technologies; strengthen labor relations with bargaining groups; and motivate, inspire, lead and manage organizational transformation, collaboration and innovation.

The Human Resources Director must have a combination of education and experience that would likely provide the knowledge and abilities to effectively fulfil the responsibilities of the position.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human resources, public administration, business administration, psychology, or a closely related field; and 8 years of increasingly responsible human resources management experience, including 2 years of management / administrative responsibility and labor relations experience.  A Master’s degree is desirable and experience in a governmental setting is preferred.  The annual salary range of the position is $180,022 to $270,034, and the City provides an excellent benefit package.
