Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Chemist in the Department of Utility Services. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision, researches, develops and performs chemical and microbiological tests on wastewater, potable water, industrial waste, groundwater, surface water and biosolids samples in accordance with established methods and procedures; and performs related duties as required.

Salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or related field
• Two (2) years of full-time professional analytical experience in a water or wastewater laboratory
• Note: An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience may be considered
• Must obtain and maintain certification from the Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) as a Grade I Wastewater Quality Analyst within one (1) year of appointment as a condition of continued employment
• Must obtain and maintain certification from the NWEA as a Grade II Wastewater Quality Analyst within two (2) years of appointment as a condition of continued employment
• Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined in NRS 483
• All required licenses and certificates , as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained at incumbent's expense.

The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. • Four (4) workdays of leave, with pay, per occurrence

WORK WEEK

• Four-day, 9.5-hour workday, 38-hour work week
• Four-day, 10-hour workday, 40-hour work week for Police PERS positions
