    POSITION SUMMARY

    "In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants)."

    This is security and customer service work of routine difficulty in patrolling and safeguarding the Arts and Science Parking Garage and providing customer service and information to the public. An employee in this class is responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds to guard and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Possible work shifts including assigned weekends and holidays are:

    6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (First Shift); or2:00 PM to 10:30 PM (Second Shift); or10:00 PM to 6:30 AM (Third Shift)
    All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this position.

    NOTE: The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description.

    This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.     • Patrols an assigned area in and around City garages; secures doors and windows; reports fire hazards and other security issues
    • Performs surveillance of City property by observing television monitors and responding to incidents observed
    • Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which require police presence
    • Operate communication systems, such as assigned radios and other security related equipment
    • Writes incident reports as necessary on unusual security issues
    • Provides customer service and information to the public
    • Removes debris/cleans up any trash or materials which may create a safety hazard
    • Performs related work as required


    JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    High school diploma or G.E.D.Up to one (1) year of related experience including some security and customer service work.Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week during the available shift. All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this position.Required to work assigned weekends and holidays. PREFERENCES:
    1. Prior security guard and/or customer service experience, preferably for a public parking facility.
    2. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
    3. The ability to communicate in various languages is a plus.

    As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

    PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    Employees will walk or stand for extended periods of time. The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

    Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available.

    HOW TO APPLY/ VETERAN INFORMATION

    Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify.

    An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form ( J204 ).
