    THE COUNTY OF EL DORADO

    SURVEYOR'S OFFICE
    The County Surveyor is responsible for providing information to the public on the complex issues of property ownership and for the timely review of all parcel maps, subdivision maps, records of survey, lot line adjustments, certificates of compliance, street names and addresses, Abandonment of Public Easements and Irrevocable Offers of Dedication to facilitate development and serve the public, County departments, and outside agencies. The County Surveyor is also responsible for the Geographic Information System (GIS) including operation, maintenance and enhancements. The system is used to manage a variety of project and permitting databases and to interpret data in conjunction with location to create maps providing responsive service to the public, County departments and outside agencies.

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    Perform a diverse range of office surveying duties in the Surveyor's Office. Perform survey work related to establishing and determining land boundaries, vertical and horizontal control. Conducts research on land or engineering surveying, property titles, descriptions, and deeds for the construction of various public works projects, including but not limited to roads, drainage, water, sanitary, bridges, and other structures and projects.

    The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
    • Plan the details for specific survey projects; act as party chief or assist the party chief in a variety of surveys, including topographic, boundary and aerial control surveys and construction staking.
    • Check measurements, readings and recorded data for completeness and accuracy.
    • Perform the more complex field computations such as computing closures, adjustments, etc.
    • Record and submit field notes on the type of survey, information required, and procedures and equipment used; prepare field books, profiles and other drawings from field notes and makes necessary computations; prepare and enters data into computer.
    • Use levels, total stations, data collectors and related survey equipment.
    • Research maps, deeds, files and plans to obtain information; analyze survey data and correlate with official records; prepare legal descriptions for right-of-way and easements for review and approval.
    • Prepare and maintain records and reports of survey work, including instrument readings, landmarks, reference points, land descriptions, sketches, computations and construction data.

    Education and Experience Requirements
    A combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; however, education may not solely substitute for the required experience.

    Three (3) years of experience in field or office surveying, or any combination of both, plus mathematics coursework through trigonometry; and possession of a valid California registration as a Land Surveyor-in-Training
    OR
    Five (5) years of experience in field or office surveying, or any combination of both, plus mathematics coursework through trigonometry.
    OR
    Possession of a Journeyman Party Chief certificate from an accredited union.

    Licenses and Certifications

    Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

    The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Assistant in Land Surveying. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
