    What You'll Be Doing

    Wake County Health and Human Services is looking for an energetic and passionate Eligibility Caseworker II to join our Energy Team. This is a benefits eligible time-limited position that is funded through June 2025.

    The Eligibility Caseworker is responsible for:
    • Interviewing clients to obtain the necessary information to determine eligibility for assistance
    • Assesses client's financial situation and provide appropriate information about economic benefits
    • Provide referrals to community resources and as well as other services
    • Enter required data into computer system in order to authorize benefits
    • Request verification as needed to determine eligibility according to program policy and evaluate the information provided and make eligibility determination
    • Provide back up to other Eligibility Caseworkers
    • Provide accurate and timely documentation
    • Utilizing document management system for caseload management

    Our Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) is a program that provides assistance to low-income families who are experiencing a heating or cooling crisis. This Program administers funding sources and programs to assist individuals with their utilities.

    These programs include:
    • Low Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)
    • Emergency Assistance under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF-EA)
    • Wake County Emergency Assistance Program
    • We also assist customers with water in administering the UCAP Program.

    *This position may have to work occasionally out of an alternative Wake County or Community-Based location after hours or on the weekend during LIEAP season. This position is required to work in office for 6 months or until quality work standards are met prior to working a hybrid schedule and may be deployed back to the office without notice. In-person training will be held at the Swinburne location.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High school degree or GED
    • Three years of job-related experience
    • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record may be required.
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field
    • One (1) year or more of determining income eligibility for Energy Assistance programs
    • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in an environment with frequent changes
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) and NCFAST, Hyland OnBase (PRIME), and OLV

    • Knowledge in NCFAST for Energy Assistance programs
    • Ability to apply complex policy to determine client budgets
    • Proficient in calculating budgets
    • Ability to review and assess financial information to determine eligibility
    • Ability to interpret policy and translate complex concepts to the public
    • Ability to meet performance and deadline expectations while maintaining accuracy
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
    • Keen ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers by listening and responding to identified needs

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
