Definition and Class Characteristics Interviews for selected candidates will be held on November 14th The Nevada County Planning Department is looking for an organized and customer focused Assistant Planner. This position, under direction, conducts planning studies and related activities pertaining to the administration, development and enforcement of the general and community plans, land use and zoning ordinances and performs related work as the need arises.
Required Knowledge of: - Principles and practices of land use, transportation, housing and environmental planning
- Purposes, policies and procedures of the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and other agencies concerned with public planning
- Statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations related to general plans, zoning, subdivisions, environmental review and land use
- Statistical and research methods relevant in the collection and analysis of data affecting public planning
- Federal, State, regional and local planning laws, regulations, case law and trends
Skill in: - Collecting, compiling, analyzing and presenting technical, statistical, and graphical information pertaining to planning and zoning research
- Interpreting and explaining policies and regulations accurately and tactfully to the public
- Making presentations to governmental bodies with planning related responsibilities
- Using computer technology and applications in the performance of daily activities
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Adapting to changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced environment
Education Required: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in planning, natural resources, environmental studies or a related field, and one year of experience in a public or private land use environment performing planning related duties comparable to those of a Planning Technician or comparable position; OR three years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Planning Technician.
